While we look forward to resuming contact practice in the dojo in a vaccinated world, Aikido Seattle is offering weekly outdoor Aiki weapons practice.
Students practice aikido principals through individual and paired weapons exercises – using a bokken (wooden sword) and jo (wooden short staff). Classes include basic techniques and movement with a weapon, solo kata (forms), and you may optionally practice paired kata with another partner. Classes often explore the relationship between weapons work and empty-hand aikido techniques and movements.
We have structured our protocol in accordance with the Washington State Sporting Activities COVID-19 Requirements. Given that this practice falls under an outdoor "Martial Arts without contact", our protocol well exceeds Washington State requirements.
Washington Arboretum, at this semi-sheltered location during wet weather, or this open location during dry weather.
Bokken | Tuesday | 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm |
Jo | Saturday | 10:30 am - 12:00 pm |
You will need wooden practice weapons. For a jo, a 1 inch diameter, 4 foot sanded and stained dowel will do. Unfortunately, we do not have any to share.
Please wear loose-fitting clothes and bring some shoes you can wear in the grass. You do not need to wear the typical uniform (gi).
We encourage you to come and try a class for free before joining the dojo. Please sign up and sign the waiver. And please let us know if you have questions.
